Update: Reason Number One Has Emerged

1. Being constantly reminded in situations with family, friends, or embarrassingly large groups of people that I don't know that I don't have a job that I can support myself on regardless of the huge amount of paperwork, legwork, etc. I do and have done to remedy that situation as quickly and efficiently as I possibly can so everyone will JUST SHUT THE HELL UP.

Thank you, cue curtain drop.

That's a superb Reason No. 1. I hope you don't feel any undue distress over this, because frankly, in spite of the cyber distance and meager acquaintance, you strike me as the employee that anyone really wants to have, but just doesn't know it yet. You can't put too high a premium on someone with a mind like yours and, please, you get HUGE extra points for your ready-and-willingness to wear a costume.

So there.

I've been in a similar boat, without oars or sails; so I know how it feels.

I'm sorry that you're going through that. Everyone likes to have some semblance of control over her environment, and it's clear that this is an issue. It sounds like you need more consideration from the people around you!
