Wild Kingdom

Every morning when I get out to bed, three cats all rush to the kitchen from wherever they had settled in for the evening. Contrary to popular belief, they bypass the food dishes in favor of the far window that looks out the driveway. The resulting excitement revolves around a woodpecker's decision to build a nest in the framework of the carport. As soon as the window is open, two cats will pack themselves in on the narrow sil, leaving one to pace around back and forth on the floor until a coveted viewing space opens up.

The woodpecker is entirely undeterred by this wild kingdom peepshow.

Oh, and something did this to an unfortunate tree across the street. Yeah for living in the woods.

One of our cats is a ferocious hunter. Not content with just watching wildlife, he dragged a newly caught hare in yesterday and started devouring it in the hallway, with the other lesser hunter cat looking on enviously and waiting his turn. And yet we have a mouse in the larder...

its pretty obvious, even to a layman like myself, that shredded tree is the work of a sasquatch.

Nice to see you are writing more often - the photos are great!

It sounds like the girls are enjoying their new home. I trust you are too.

It must be great to have three cats....if you're not a bird.

The cats get plenty of entertainment.

Holy cow, that tree got obliterated by "something!" I wonder who the culprit is, but I might be able to believe that the tree is the work of a (thousand) woodpecker(s).

That woodpecker's mighty lucky he doesn't live here by our ancient but still outdoor kitty and (wait, wait, there's more) that he's not a rat. Ancient, outdoor kitty would've killed him yesterday. Or at least one of his brothers. And left him laying/lying (take your pick) on our sidewalk.

Woodpeckers, bluejays, rats - they're all annoying in varying degrees, so I've got no problem letting the kitty loose. Aren't you tempted? :)

Werewolves? You're smart for not letting your cats sleep with you. I have no patience for people who complain about their cats waking them up too early.

It looks like you live in a beautiful area. I still love the city life but every once in a while I wish I could just roam in the woods like Thoreau and clear my mind.
